Head chef: Giuseppe Tentori
531 W. Wells {Wells + Grand}
Located in what some would argue is the heart of Chicago's see and be seen restaurant locale, River North, a new attention-worthy spot is making way. GT Fish & Oyster, brought to you by the BOKA group, is delving into uncharted territory. Sophisticated dinner service (mastered at Boka) meets delectable lunch, happy hour, and much, much more.
Just to name a few of the notable features Tentori spilled about GT Fish & Oyster include: An expansive bar (for cocktails as well as fresh oysters, the obvious highlight of the menu). Large open windows facing Grand ave. and an outdoor dining patio (to make sure that you're seen by envious eyes). An east coast spin on our delicious, yet all too familiar, seafood cuisine; lobster rolls and pot pie via Boston and NYC. Last but not least, lunch!
So why is this on my most sought after list? Because Boka was sensational. The ambiance was restrained yet inviting. The main dining room conveys a boutique-feel but Boka unfolds into numerous rooms and a white tent in back. The service was timely, knowledgeable, and completely unpretentious. The food was prepared elegantly, each bite I appreciated more than the last. Finally, the diversity of the menu speaks to Tentori's ability to adapt and invigorate ingredients that come to life.
Enough praise for Boka, but seriously, if you haven't been go. I'm predicting the space Tentori and the Boka group are carving out at GT Fish & Oyster will live up to the highest of hopes with the only thing surpassing being the fresh seafood. A well-defined fish heavy menu that promises approachable yet complicated flavors is welcome in River North any day. GT Fish & Oyster is sure to be another crowning achievement in the sea of competition.
